I love the advent calendar idea. I just may use that!

I have kids ages 4, 6, 7, and 10 - if anyone else reads this post and has suggestions for older kids, please let me know/tag me. I'm having so much trouble figuring it out this year and I want the least amount of waste, plastic, etc and batteries aren't allowed. I want to wallow in simple, connected, and making memories or using our hands. Thank you!

Those are such fun ages! If you wanted something crafty, you could always have them make ornaments from recycled and up cycled materials (the botanical garden near our home has student competitions for this— this is a previous year’s winners if you are looking for reference! https://www.phipps.conservatory.org/blog/detail/fairchild-challenge-at-phipps-challenge-1-winners-announced8).

You could also stretch opportunities like family game night into a few days— each child gets one night to pick their favorite snacks + games for the family to play together. And for other activities, I’m willing to bet the goofier the better! See who can make up the funniest holiday song/ story, maybe have the kids have a ‘dress up’ night where they put together wacky winter outfit combinations and “stroll a runway,” or have a dance party to favorite kids/ holiday songs. Especially with the older kiddos, they might be interested in collaborating with you to make a list of holiday activities, so all the creative work isn’t left up to you. I’d love to hear what you end up doing!
